Personal Flea Market

Wed Aug 1, 2007, 3:29 AM
</b>This Journal May Contain Sarcasm</b>

That's what fractal art is, didn't you all know? I've seen the light and the truth thanks to dA's Director of Artist Relations. (There's an ironic title for you). It's nothing more than a "personal flea market of pre-packaged parameters in which you get to pick and choose" [link]

The CEA thinks there is no creative effort involved in fractal art, as has been pretty well documented by now.

All the admins and staff seem to agree with them. (There may have been one of two dissenting voices but as DA is being its usual fucked-up self, I can't see any replies in this journal [link] past the first page).

So ...  this is an ART site, with a Fractal Art Gallery, and they take your money for subs, and they take their profit from fractal art print sales but what you do is not art. Hmmm.

Thought y'all should wake up and smell the coffee. I have  I've smelled that damn fine cup of java and I'm outta here.

The parameter copyright issue: I'd have conceded the point to dA if it had been presented in a way which made it obvious they had taken it seriously and made a decision on the state of the law at present and made it clear that was the basis for the decision. The way it was handled though? Patronising and unacceptable.

It becomes apparent, having read the comments from $realitysquared and $Moonbeam13 in particular that they neither like nor understand fractal art and think it's fair game to be publicly insulting and dismissive about it. Shame on me for thinking that on an art site, the administration would have a little more respect for a genre that they superficially endorse. You'd think they'd have the sense to keep their personal opinions to themselves in any case. As far as I'm concerned, their behaviour has been totally unprofessional.

Huge thanks to all my friends here for your support & encouragement and - especially - for all the laughs.

Special mention to `ClaireJones for her encouragement and advice when I first joined the site. Without that, I wouldn't have persevered, I wouldn't have stayed here and I wouldn't have met all you lovely people and enjoyed viewing your art.

Def taking a time out Lauren. There are things that I feel still need to be said and while everyone's all happy-feely I really don't want to rock the boat and stir shit. Again ;)

I'll note ya :)

Hiya Gill.

I have just joined this site...[link]
You do NOT have to pay anything to be a member, you do NOT have to pay for a print account, you can sell your stuff at a decent price there, and they do NOT take any of your profit either.
Sound good ?

I have only been there for a day, and already have had a wonderful letter of welcome, and also loads of lovely welcomes/comments/faves from other members.
I think it's worth trying :):)

Thelma, thanks for the info, I'm going to be taking a look: someone else has recommended it as well as a good place if you want to buy prints of your own stuff.

I had hoped we were past this. There will be developments on this issue later but regardless, it's sad to see this still continuing.
