Oh My ...

... an earthquake!

That was a weird experience!  I've experienced a tremor before now, but last night was surreal: everything rumbled and shook ... and carried on rumbling and shaking for some time. It was like the floor was rippling under you.  A huge chunk of England and part of Wales felt the quake last night (around 1.00am) but, thankfully, minimal damage considering that at 5.2 it wasn't insignificant.

An earthquake this size happens so rarely in the UK that it was quite a surprise to learn that :

"The BGS records approximately 200 earthquakes in the UK each year on its monitoring stations.

Approximately 25 earthquakes in the UK are felt by people each year."

I can only begin to imagine what it must be like for people who experience severe quakes or who live in earthquake-prone zones.

It sounds horrid to think even in the UK we can get those things! Richard says the epicentre was in Lincolnshire? (I didn't know anything about it until reading this.)

There was one that affect Manchester year before last, I believe, and actually caused some damage, just as in Lincolnshire....

Wierd. We had an earthquake the other day. Well, Wells, NV had an earthquake, we (Salt Lake City, UT and surrounding areas) only felt the shock waves. It was about 6.0 on the scale. They say the SLC is due for the big one any time now. We live on a "semi-ancient" lake bed. There's lots of sand underneath us. :(

I'm really glad y'all are ok. Take care :D

haha i live in california, i just know that the best quake ive felt happened when i was in the shower..... all of a sudden the glass doors started rattling and i had thought my sisters were running up the stairs
(right next to bathroom) but then i found i was moving and the washcloth fell on the ground.... next moment it stopped and i just heard my mom pound on the door and say "everything all right in there" it was a surprise, and i jfound myself thinking "that definatly would have sucked if we had to evacuate and i was ni the shower..... :XD:
